The hacking collective came up with a new hardware exploit dubbed SX Core and SX Lite. An estimated 20 million Switch devices are susceptible to the SX Pro USB device. An updated chipset fixes the unpatchable exploit in the first-gen Nvidia Tegra CPUs. The SX Pro Switch mod only works with early launch Switch models before June 2018. “All without authorization or paying a dime to Nintendo or to any of the large number of authorized game publishers making games for Nintendo Switch,” the lawsuit states. Once the custom operating system is available, users can play pirated copies of games on the Switch from a microSD card. The group is responsible for the SX Pro, a USB device for installing custom firmware on any Nintendo Switch console. In May, Nintendo filed a lawsuit in Ohio and Seattle courts against the hacking group, Team-Xecuter. The Imgur user says their motivation for creating the N64/Switch amalgamation was partly because it "looks cool" and was "fun to make," but also they said they wanted a way of keeping the Switch horizontally docked, and the old cartridge machine seemed to fit that purpose nicely.Nintendo successfully sued to stop pirates from selling Switch modchips. Sometimes, however, it's possible to reanimate old consoles and give them a new life in the modern era, as one modder did.
It shows that retro titles and hardware are highly sought after. Appreciating in value, games such as Super Mario 64 are able to fetch more than a million dollars at auction. While the gaming world has moved into newer realms with new technology pushing the industry forward, that doesn't mean the older stuff has been completely forgotten about, especially when it comes to Nintendo products.
